Junior Counselor Program

Camp Wartburg’s Junior Counselor program provides young adults with opportunities to develop leadership skills by working with children and assisting with camp programs in partnership with college-age adult leaders. The deadline for Junior Counselor applications is June 1st.

Who can apply to be a junior counselor?

Young adults entering their sophomore year of high school or beyond are welcome to apply for junior counselor positions.

Are junior counselors paid to be at Camp Wartburg?

No, Junior counselors are young-adult volunteers and are not paid.

Is there a fee to participate in the Junior Counselor program?

Yes, the cost to participate in the Junior Counselor program is $100 plus a $15.00 registration fee. Please note that Camp Wartburg is one of the few camps in the country that does not charge full tuition for young-adult volunteers.

How many junior counselor positions are available?

Camp Wartburg schedules between three to five young adults per week, depending on program needs.

When does camp begin/end?

Camp programs run Sunday-Friday beginning in June and running through mid-August. Junior counselors serve on a weekly basis and are expected to arrive at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Pickup is at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Can I serve multiple weeks?

Due to the rising popularity of the Junior Counselor program, each applicant selected will receive a one-week assignment. Additional weeks may be available based on the applicant’s availability, past performance and Camp Wartburg’s needs.

Who should fill out the application?

Camp Wartburg communicates directly with junior counselor candidates. Parents are encouraged to support healthy leadership habits by allowing and encouraging their child to show personal responsibility and initiative throughout the application process.

References

Applicants are expected to have two references. Applicants should acquire each reference’s permission prior to submitting an application. Applicants will also be required to submit the name, email address and phone number for each reference.

Parent Notification

Camp Wartburg must have permission from parent(s)/guardian(s) in order for applicants to participate in the Junior Counselor program. You will be required to provide parent/guardian name, email address and phone number.

Things to know prior to starting your junior counselor application

Once you begin your application, you will be unable to save it.

Following is a list of application requirements. You must have each of these items in order to complete the survey.Please read through each item carefully, as Camp Wartburg is unable to retrieve incomplete applications.

You will need to have all four of the below requirements in order to complete the junior counselor application. Camp Wartburg is unable to accept incomplete applications. Please consider the following, as you will not be able to save an application once you have begun:

  1. Summer Schedule Availability

    You will be asked to rank the summer schedule weeks per your availability

  2. Personal Statement

    Applicants are required to write a few paragraphs (500 words or more) describing their personal statements of faith and their experience in leadership and working with children.

    If you have previously served as a junior counselor at Camp Wartburg, please describe the experience, how it has impacted you and what your goals would be in returning for another summer. Also describe what you hope to gain from the experience.

    Please Note: You are able to copy and paste into the survey. You may type your statement in a Word document and paste it in the application when you get to the corresponding page.

  3. References

    All applicants (including returning applicants) are expected to have two references. Applicants should acquire each reference’s permission prior to submitting an application. Applicants will also be required to submit the name, email address and phone number for each reference.

    Camp Wartburg must have permission from parent(s)/guardian(s) in order for applicants to participate in the Junior Counselor program. You will be required to provide parent/guardian name, email address and phone number. Camp Wartburg will contact your parent/guardian to obtain consent for program participation.

  1. You will need to create an UltraCamp account in order to apply to be a volunteer.
  2. Please make your parent/legal guardian the head of the account and list yourself as one of the children.
  3. You will then need to select “Junior Counselor Application” under Program Choices.
  4. Once you have selected the application you will follow the step-by-step registration process and fill out the application form. You will also be able to send the third-party form to your references.
